Together with production company Terra Mater we worked on our first giant screen project.

We crafted cgi visualizations of animal migration routes towards the  Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Above you can see a 45 second oneshot, showing the global migration routes of various bird species. Below is a 30 second visualization of caribou movement during the year within the refuge.

We had to push our skills in cgi maps to a new level for this project. The giant screen required us to create extremely detailed textures and renderings at 6k resolution. Additionally we faced the task to find a good compromise between accurate scientific visualization, spectacular images and easy readability for the viewer.

The Arctic is scheduled for a spring 2021 release in IMAX and giant screen theaters worldwide.

The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is under serious threat. But you can help! Follow @PROTHEARCTIC on social media. Or visit www.protectthearctic.org for more information.

To find the right look, we experimented with a lot of different styles for the maps. Below are some of our favourite styleframes!

Here is another small animation we did for the documentary. A 2D collage showing some of director Florian Schulz’s favourite photographs taken during his time in the Arctic Refuge.
